Kirjeldus: The topic of the present Master thesis is "Suicides among middle-aged men in Estonia". The purpose is to study suicides among men in age group 35 to 59 years. This research compares middle-aged male suicides with older and younger male suicides, with female suicides and with middle-aged male control group. Differences by following characteristics in the suicide process are analysed, marital status, number of children, employment status, financial situation, existents of friends, alcoholism and also different life events (family, work, health etc.).

In the empirical part of the thesis the author used data from the study of Estonian-Swedish Suicidology Institute and Ministry of Social Affairs (project number 99-38) "External causes of death and mental health promotion" second part "Suicides in Estonia 1999: deceased and survivors". Study relies on psychological autopsy data, which contains the interviews with relatives and intimates of the people who have commited a suicide. There were interviews on 427 suicide cases which consisted 91% of all the suicides in 1999.
